Free Journals – Part 1

Posted by Kate on March 27, 2009

The current economic recession has motivated several publishers to offer free trials to many of their titles, so try these titles and let me know what you think.

Several titles are available from CIG (Cancer Information Group) Journals. These are available now until the trial ends in early fall. Access these from the library’s Journal Holdings list:

Clinical Breast Cancer
Clinical Colorectal Cancer
Clinical Lung Cancer
Clinical Lymphoma & Myeloma
Clinical Genitourinary Cancer
Clinical Leukemia
Clinical Ovarian Cancer

Wiley Interscience is allowing free access to:

Mount Sinai Journal of Medicine
Personality and Mental Health
Proteomics – Clinical Applications
Statistical Analysis and Data Mining

We will have access to these titles at least through 2009. Access them via the Journal Holdings list.

Look for more free journal trial offerings later this spring!

What’s new in the EndNote X2 update

Posted by Kate on February 2, 2009

from The EndNote website:

The temporary online search results are back! Now you can choose between having results automatically stored in the library or kept separate for more selectivity. Three new buttons above the Groups panel provide:

  • Integrated Library & Online Search Mode—library groups and online search results are combined on this panel to simplify navigation. Online search results are saved directly into the open library.
  • Local Library Mode—the focus on this panel is groups built from the EndNote library. The Online Search groups are not available. When initiating an online search from the Tools menu, the Groups pane display switches to Online Search Mode.
  • Online Search Mode—only the Online Search groups are available. When downloading references from an online database, the references are stored in a temporary library much like in previous versions of EndNote. Those references you wish to keep can then be copied to a permanent EndNote library.

New journal titles!

Posted by Kate on January 16, 2009

The Talbot Research Library is pleased to announce the addition of four electronic titles to the Library’s collection. These titles are: Clinical Genetics, Journal of Cancer Education, Genetic Testing, and Journal of Proteome Research. Access to these titles is available on the Journal Holdings list on the library’s website.

The aim of Clinical Genetics is to link research to the clinic in the understanding of the molecular basis of genetic disease. It is indexed in Medline (Pubmed) and Web of Science. The online subscription goes back to 1998 and print holdings go back to 1980.

The Journal of Cancer Education is the official journal of the American Association for Cancer Education (AACE) and the European Association for Cancer Education (EACE). It is indexed in medline (pubmed), psycInfo, and CINAHL and published quarterly. The subscription allows access back to 2003 and the library has print holdings from 1996-1999.

Genetic Testing is a resource for those who develop, perform, and interpret genetic tests and their results. The subscription allows access back to 1999, and it is indexed in Medline (Pubmed) and Web of Science.

The Journal of Proteome Research
is a fairly new journal from ACS Publications (American Chemical Society) that encompasses all aspects of global protein analysis. It has an impressive impact factor of 5.675 and is indexed in Medline (Pubmed), Web of Science, and CAS database interfaces, including SCIFINDER. The electronic subscription includes the entire journal contents starting in 2002.
