New PubMed interface to roll out… today!

Apparently the new PubMed interface went live just a couple of hours ago. I used PubMed this morning and they hadn’t transitioned the site. So, check out the video tutorial I posted earlier to get a handle on the new redesign.

Science Translational Medicine Free Trial

The Library has free institutional trial to Science Translational Medicine, a new journal from the AAAS. Science Translational Medicine publishes original, peer-reviewed, science-based research, including small clinical trials and other studies of human biology and research on animal models of human disease. “Perspective” articles and Reviews discuss new findings from both a basic science and a clinical point of view. The journal will also feature and synthesize informed commentary on policy, funding, regulatory issues and more. Another feature, The Clinical and Translational Science Network (CTSciNet) provides articles and perspectives about training, career paths, and career-related issues.

You can check out this journal here. A link has also been placed on the library’s Journal Holdings list.

The trial is effective until January, 2010. Please let us know what you think!

In an ongoing effort to provide FCCC clinical staff with simplified and direct access to information, Darrin Richman announced the release of NCCN Links yesterday. NCCN links is a FCCC-based web page, which provides links to National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines and resources without the need of a login. NCCN Links may be accessed from “Clinic Links”, the Pharmacy site, the “Chemotherapy Order Generation” web page or directly through this link.

LibX – bringing the library to your browser

I recently created a version of LibX, a plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer, which allows the user to search the Fox Chase Cancer Center library catalog or Google Scholar directly by using right-click or “drag and drop” of any highlighted content appearing in an internet browser. Users longer have to go to a separate site to locate a book in our catalog or an article in Google Scholar when they find interesting topics serendipitously on the web. Even references within an article PDF can be highlighted and dragged to the LibX Google Scholar toolbar for quick retrieval. LibX can be used to search in a variety of ways, depending on the needs and searching style of the user. Please visit here for more information!

The Internet Explorer version of the plug-in isn’t working exactly right at the moment, so I recommend you download the Firefox version.
